Patients may expect any necessary x-rays, a periodontal screening or comprehensive periodontal exam, a thorough exam by one of the doctors and a dental cleaning if the patient is on a normal recall schedule with healthy gingival. In keeping up with the latest recommendations of the ADA we have initiated a yearly full mouth periodontal charting on all patients 35 years and older. Periodontal screenings will continue to be done on all patients under the age of 35.

Periodontal disease is a low grade infection which effects 90% of Americans at some point in their lives. The latest research indicates that periodontal disease can affect general health especially in pregnant women, people with diabetes and those with heart disease or familial tendencies to these diseases. Patients who smoke or use other tobacco products are also at risk of developing periodontal disease.
